Introduction to Radio Upatyaka.
Radio Upatyaka is established under the three decade social organisation Narayan Pariwar Club situated at Teku, Kathmandu. It is the first community radio in Kathmandu of its kind as it is owned and run by non-government non-profit organisation NPC. The radio has been actively producing programs in the fields of education,health, entertainment, culture, technology, environment, linguistics, handicaps, women and children programs related to the work field of its parent organisation. With a slogan of "Communication for Community",the radio has cooperated with different communities of the Kathmandu Valley. The name "Upatyaka" in Nepalese literally means "valley", and in present context according to its placement it means Kathmandu Valley. This has special meaning that the radio is set up for the benefit and well being of the communities in the valley. Currently radio is working for 17 hours from 5am to 10pm. 3 hours are for Newari program, 1 hour for Bhojpuri and other another hour for different linguistics. The remaining hours are filled by Nepali programs. Radio is mainly working for the community as a communication media for the voiceless. At present Radio Upatyaka has joined hands with NepalBani Network, CIN and BBC World Service who provide news, and quality programs related to community.
